Does that sound like a silly question to you? When I ask my patients that question, they laugh and chuckle a bit and look at me and say something like, "as happy as I can be, of course!". I then ask them if they ARE as happy as they can be? The simple answer is, YES! The real answer is NO! Let me explain, using this example we have to know where you are on the happiness scale. Thats right, the Happiness Scale, a number between 0-10 (0 means not happy at all and 10 means Outrageously Happy).
Take a moment right now and close your eyes and pick a number on your happiness scale. Just choose the the number that comes to mind. Lets say you pick the number 6, so you aren't ecstatic but you are pretty happy.
My question is, if you are a 6, is this the average number of your happiness for the week? If yes, how do you raise it to a 10? There are many tools and techniques to do this. In my office I use a number of techniques to help people increase their happiness level. It is an exercise, just like running, biking or going to the gym, it takes practice. The more you practice the better you get at it.
There is a book I highly recommend that gives you a multitude of tools for increasing your happiness level. The book is Marci Shimoffs, "Happy for No Reason" (there is a link at the lower left of this page, just click the picture and it will take you to the book). She gives you tools like:
- The Happiness Questionnaire
- Solution Focus Technique
- Look for the lesson and the gift
- Daily Happiness Awards
- Happiness Habits
These are just a couple of examples of the topics in this wonderful book. I highly recommend it to raise your happiness scale to a RESOUNDING 10. Don't You deserve to be "As Happy as You Can Be", then you MUST read Marci's Book!
Abundant Happiness and Blessings to You!
